Twitch beats CNN and MSNBC in January's viewership stats

Streaming platform rivals the performance of major US channels.
Mike Holmes 15 Fevereiro 2018

Twitch has been attracting audiences to rival some of the biggest cable channels in the US, a new report has revealed. According to Street Insider the site attracted an average of 962K concurrent viewers last month, that's an uptick of 22% compared to year-on-year stats from January 2017, and up 26% the previous Month, December 2017.

In comparison, the sites claims that American cable channels MSNBC posted 885K average concurrent viewers, and CNN had 783K. The figures still leave Twitch trailing some of the bigger networks, but nevertheless the stats are impressive.

That said, they may not be indicative of monthly viewership figures moving forward, and we may just be seeing a spike. While Fortnite and PUBG continue to draw in viewers, this month saw Tyler1 return to stream League of Legends, and in the process draw in 300K concurrent users. There was also the small matter of the opening stage of the Overwatch League.

Still, even if these numbers slump a little moving forward, it's a good sign that Twitch and video game streaming in general, is only going to grow in popularity and draw in bigger audiences.
