Brazilian Counter-Strike team Tempo Storm have gone from being unknowns to highly profiled international contenders this year, mainly from their strong showing at IEM Katowice and several appearances at premier tournaments.
Now the team has secured a very important notch in their belt by taking their first international title. That happened yesterday at the CEVO Gfinity Season 9 finals in London, where the Brazilians defeated Danish side SK Gaming 3-1 in a best of five series.
Tempo Storm started off the series with a crushing win on Cache, beating SK Gaming 16-5. The second map was Dust 2, by far the closest of the series, which saw the two teams splitting rounds evenly between them and pushing the game into overtime. There, Tempo Storm won 19-17.
SK fought back on Mirage, building a slight 9-6 lead at halftime and only giving up three rounds in the second half for a 16-9 win. But Tempo Storm responded with a dominant T-side opening on Cobblestone, putting the score at 12-3 at halftime and having no issues securing the final rounds needed for the win. With a final score of 16-8, Tempo Storm locked in the CEVO Season 9 title.
Tempo Storm had beaten SK Gaming earlier in the playoffs, and had also dispatched Dignitas and Virtus.Pro in the quarters and semifinals, respectively. SK Gaming had sent HellRaisers packing in their semifinal.
The win earns Tempo Storm a payout of $55,000.
