IOC: Violent games will not be in the Olympics

"This cannot be brought into line with our Olympic values."
Sam Bishop 3 Setembro 2018

The conversation about having esports in the Olympic Games has been ongoing for a fair while, and now International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach has spoken to Associated Press about the issue, saying that violent games at least will not be up for consideration.

"We cannot have in the Olympic program a game which is promoting violence or discrimination," he said. "So-called killer games. They, from our point of view, are contradictory to the Olympic values and cannot therefore be accepted."

"Of course every combat sport has its origins in a real fight among people," he added. "But sport is the civilised expression about this. If you have egames where it's about killing somebody, this cannot be brought into line with our Olympic values."

The Asian Games allowed esports this year for the first time, with League of Legends taking centre-stage, but it seems we won't see the likes of CS:GO in there any time soon. Do you agree with this?
