Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 competitive play detailed

We already reported today that the Call of Duty World League is making some key changes when it brings pros together, but we also now know details on competitive play for players at home, as well as fans who want to watch the action in the CWL.

"The spectator part is critical to the success of competitive play - the league gets stronger as the audience grows bigger, and for that reason, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer is built with the goal of making the game as fun to watch as it is to play. The audience for competitive play and the CWL will grow by bridging the gap between "pubs" and "pros" and making the game that's watched on the main stage as close as possible to the game that's played at home on the couch," the post reads.

As we already knew from the CWL announcement, this means Black Ops 4 is moving to a 5v5 format, with each map and system built for this. We'll also be seeing a World League Hub as well, collecting together all things esports and competitive in one place in-game, where you can watch events, play in Pro Series competitive playlists, and more.

Speaking of the Pro Series, this is the game's set of playlist rules adhering to those of the CWL, letting you form rosters, scrim, and play in weekly events in Pro Series format to win prizes, competing against other teams of similar skill in competitive matchmaking. This Pro Series rulset will also be updated to match the CWL as time goes by.

In-game League Play is also coming back with a three-day event format, assigning players to a League Play ladder after their first game. Players can either compete as a team or alone in a Solo Ladder, and events will once again use the Pro Series format, with players earning Ladder Points to try and fight for first place. League Play events will happen either one a week or once every two weeks, but there are also Gauntlet Events where players take part in a series of consecutive matches, the goal being to hit a certain number of wins before hitting a certain number of losses. Completing Gauntlets will then grant access to in-game rewards.

Clans will allow players to create a team of up to seven people too, letting players compete with a fixed roster that includes subs, but the clans themselves support up to 100 players, with those included able to be a member of up to three teams. Teams have a name, emblem, and their own homepage in Clan Headquarters too, which salso serves as a social tool for whatever mode you're playing.
