It's no secret that esports is a big industry when it comes to monetary investment, and now The Esports Observer has reported that in the first quarter of 2018 alone there was just under $2 billion USD in disclosed investment funding for companies related to esports; a truly staggering figure.
Tencent Holdings forms a big part of this, having invested $632 million in streaming platform Huya, and in February alone there was over $200 million in disclosed funding. With these figures, it's not surprising that this quarter raised more in than any other single quarter before it.
How big can esports grow in the years to come though?
