The NBA's 2K League is starting next May

We have a bit more information about the competition.

Earlier this year we reported that the NBA had partnered with Take-Two Interactive to create an esports competition called the 2K League, based on NBA 2K games, and now the league's managing director Brendan Donohue has revealed in an interview with Engadget that the competition will start next may, and that NBA teams can start drafting players in the middle of March.

Tryouts will start in February, however, and once each team selects five players to represent them, the official members of the organisation will be confirmed in April, with contracts and sponsorship deals all included.

Donohue also revealed that, aside from the already confirmed teams, there are "four or five" others who have expressed an interest in beign a part of the second team. It's worth noting that not all NBA teams are in the 2K League right now, as the Chicago Bulls and LA Lakers are among those not competing.

The focus right now, though, is working out the details ahead of the first year, including how tryouts will work and what platforms they'll be on, as well as the all-important question of where people can watch the action. The idea, however, is to hopefully have two studios on the East and West coasts for broadcasting games.

Do you think more sports leagues short try this?
