The BBC has announced that they are producing a documentary, taking a look behind the scenes of esports. Titled, Fight for First: Excel Esports, this show is set to be narrated by Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders, Batman Begins), and will look at Excel Esports and how they became a multi-million pound esports organisation.
Set to air in early 2021 on BBC iPlayer, the show will span five episodes and will delve into Excel's state-of-the-art training facility at Twickenham Stadium, while also looking at the organisation's journey through Riot's LEC in Berlin. The show is looking to bring esports to a more mainstream platform, by showing a behind the scenes look at an industry that is growing in significant value, year after year.
Speaking to the BBC about the documentary, Cillian Murphy said: "My sons love gaming. When I showed them the trailer for this, they said I had to do it. Being involved in Fight For First has been a great experience and there is so much more to professional gaming than I ever thought. It has opened up a whole new world to me and this series provides a proper insight into a fascinating, global industry."
Excel Esports, the focus of this documentary was founded by Kieran and Joel Holmes-Darby, with its base set in London. Excel has recently changed quite significantly, seeing Joel actually leave the organisation, before the whole team was re-branded only a few weeks ago.
To catch the documentary, make sure to keep an eye out on BBC iPlayer early next year.
