Report: NBA looking to invest in Chinese esports

NBA China's CEO recently spoke to CNBC about the plans.

According to a recent report by CNBC, the National Basketball Association (NBA) is looking into investing more in Chinese esports, as NBA China CEO David Shoemaker said in at the Consumer Electronics Show Asia.

"When you factor in not just filling arenas, but the content offering and what that can do with the millions of people watching it online, we think the sky's really the limit," he told CNBC, before saying that NBA is considering either an esports league in China or including Chinese teams in the US.

"The reality is most of our fans still can't buy that ticket and 99-point-something percent of our fans will never get to go see an NBA game, so we're focused a little bit on tech and how we can use tech to bring that NBA experience to our fans," he added when talking about how NBA China is looking to optimise viewing experience for games in China.

Right now China's esports scene is looking pretty healthy, as just recently we reported that China's mobile esports market might make close to $7 billion USD by the end of this year. Will we see more organisations invest in Chinese esports then?
